ITV’s The Jury

Finally got around to seeing this marathon five-nighter. And the verdict? Meh.

I had high hopes, I mean – Peter Morgan for gawd’s sakes! But in the end it felt a bit damp squibbish, a little watered-down and lowest common denominated. Which is a bloody big shame.

On the plus side there was a minor ‘Dinnerladies’ reunion. Although Julie Waters and Anne Reid didn’t have any actual scenes together, I do like to think of them crossing paths during read throughs, sharing a moment over a cuppa, thrusting thrush into the conversation and thrashing it about.

Julie Waters’ delivery as Emma Watts QC was ever so slightly reminiscent of the fabulous Petula Gordino. It’s amazing what a trip to the hairdresser, a visit to Specsavers and the application of a powdered wig can do for a woman. Glad to discover she got the diabolical flatulence under control…
